Hi I am Khayle, your tour guide in discovering the hidden wonders of Gonzaga, Cagayan.
Staying here for almost five years gave me an opportunity to explore and witness the beauty of this 1st class municipality. I am very exciting to share with how amazing Gonzaga is. They are indeed very rich with natural resources, captivating tourist attractions and culture.

The history of Gonzaga can be traced back in the 17th century. The original inhabitants are the Negritoes and called the place "GAMPAO" which means mountainous. They survived in these mountains and virgin forests. Hunting and fishing are their sources of livelihood.
In the 18th century, the name was changed to "WANGAG" since to municipality is abundant of clear rivers and creeks.  Adventurous Ilocanos from Ilocos Region settled in the river banks near the Babuyan Channel wherein the means of transportation were boat, passing the babuyan Channel by cart and biking the trails near the seashore and through the sharp ranges of Caraballo Mountains.
In 1917, the place was renamed "RUMANG-AY" meaning to be progressive. In the same year, a petition converting the place into an independent town was initiated by a noted pioneer leader named Francisco Torres.
It was January 1, 1918 when it finally became a municipality by virtue of Executive Order No. 81 signed by Governor General Francis Button Harrison. And named in honor of Gracio P. Gonzaga, the first Filipino Governor of Cagayan.
